When it comes to beaches, Pembrokeshire can certainly claim some prizes.  Officially, it has a total of 52 awards;  30 Seaside Awards, 11 Green Coast Awards and 11 prestigious Blue Flags. These cover various from the highest standard of water quality to environmental education, management, safety and services. The Green Coast award is awarded to those quiet, quaint, hidden gems. With high standards of water quality and known for their natural, rural surroundings.

With most of the beaches also boasting being dog friendly all year round, there is no end to your choice, no matter the time of year.  We have spent many an hour walking Milo along Poppit Sands, with the sun just setting and the sand feeling cool under your feet.  I don’t think we have ever been there and it look the same twice.  There is always a rich supply of interesting beach life – driftwood, shells, crab skeletons even jellyfish at times and the sand is a sculpture in itself.  Sometimes flat and shiny, other times flowing and undulating, all dependent on the wind and weather. Many coastal walks start and end at the beach.  Tresaith, Aberporth to name but two, both offering ice cream, beer, tea, your choice and Abereiddi (The Blue Pool) will have you holding your breath with excitement watching the fun some people can have jumping from the rocks into the deep blue sea!

There are a selection of great cafes too, so whether its the CRWST cafe at Poppit, or the Plymp Tart at Penbryn, you will be guaranteed a cake to die for and a drink, hot or cold, to quench the most discerning thirst!

Even at peak times, the beaches are never too busy. I guess we are still a little undiscovered here in West Wales so are still able to offer plenty to do without having to do it with hundreds of others!
