We finally took the keys on March 2nd 2016, around six months after we first viewed Valley View Cottages.
We hired a professional removals team, something we never done before but as it was 220miles from our old property to the new it all had to be transported in one go. We packed up and vacated our lovely house in Bishopstoke, between Southampton and Winchester they day before completion and drove to stay the night with my brother who lives in Gloucestershire. We completed the journey to Wales and we met our son, Dominic and Clare’s sister Jill who drove down that day from Southampton to help us settle in. We were walking around the Castle ruins of Newcastle Emlyn when we got the call that we had completed and were the new owners of Valley View Cottages. It was a pretty wild day with snow showers in the morning and high winds and heavy rain in the afternoon, perfect moving in weather – no but typical of Wales at that time of year.
It’s always a strange day when you move house, often there is sadness about leaving a house that you have had many great times in but obviously mixed with happiness and excitement about the new place. We had this by the bucket load and on top of all this we had to pick up running the business, on the same day! Luckily there were no guests in the cottages and no-one due for a couple of weeks so we were able to get our heads around things. It was a steep learning curve though.
We were nervous about hosting our first guests, Linda and Martin but all went smoothly. We must have done alright as they became regular customers and have visited us every year since.
