The impressive Ffynone House and garden is just a stones throw from Valley View Cottages on the outskirts of Newchapel, so last weekend, when an old friend turned up to visit for a couple of days, we thought we should explore.
The gardens are open to the public from May to September on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. More details here.
The present house was built 1793 and the gardens planted around that time. There are some very impressive and old trees from around the world including a monkey puzzle from 1850!
The gardens have been restored by the 3rd Earl Lloyd George and his wife who bought the house in 1987.
We visited on a hot, humid and sultry day so the views in the photographs are a little hazy. Dogs are welcome and it’s a great way to spend a couple of hours followed by a visit to the excellent tea rooms.
