So after our marathon paint off of Owl Cottage it looked so good, we decided we would have to spruce up all three of the other cottages. Red Kite Lodge was the chosen cottage for a change of furnishings colour. We had ‘on lend’ a beautiful quilted wall hanging, skillfully created by a family member and a picture we had brought up with us from our past life, both of them matching perfectly but also clashing perfectly with the current cushions and rug, so on a trip to Gloucester Quay, we bought a new rug and cushions et voila …co-ordination! We also took the opportunity to remove the old curtains and replace them with wooden blinds for a brighter less cluttered look. Incidentally, this first picture is taken by a professional photographer, something we decided to invest in……watch this space for the rest!
It was also time to add a bit more of us into the cottages. Its nearly a year now and I think we have had enough experience to know what won’t frighten the guests off …. we hope, so the bravest step was the feature wall in the bathrooms. Back to our favorite paint and wallpaper shop in Cardigan and there it was, calling for us, Tangerine Twist!! Yep, lets do it…. so we did. Well we were not disappointed, what an impact it made. Brightening, warming, couldn’t believe it!! Woodpecker is our favourite. Found a great bit of artwork in our loft, also brought up from our past life and a brand new shower curtain from a charity shop!
Well, the paint was great to use, so off I went to all the other cottages and painted a wall in them too so now each one has a Tangerine Twist feature wall to be proud of!!
The next big step was the wallpapering. We decided on both bedrooms in Woodpecker Barn, they have always been calling out for it and the outcome did not disappoint plus we spotted some paper that we thought would be just right for Buzzards Watch too. The new paper was set off with new twin pine framed beds which matched the existing furniture and look so much nicer than the existing divan beds. I couldn’t wait to get rid of the old divans as I always managed to suck up the valance at random times when trying to clean the rooms, drove me mad! We liked the pine bed look so much we sourced a kingsize pine bed in my favourite shop in Cardigan, CCM.. This would replace the bed in Buzzards Watch, another valance out of my life, plus all of them matched the current bedroom furniture. All in all our little decoration session ended up making quite a major change to the bedrooms and now with all the cottages re-decorated we can put our feet up for a season or two – just the garden now!
