Clare and Chris welcome you to Valley View cottages.
We bought Valley View Cottages in March 2016 after a long search for a suitable “lifestyle” business. We fell in love with the property within minutes of arriving on a beautiful sunny day in August 2015. We sat in the garden with Sarah and Jim drinking tea thinking “this is the life for us”! It then took eight long months for us to sell our house in Hampshire, resign from our jobs, arrange the finance and move to Wales. It was a wrench to leave our two grown-up children, Dominic and Georgia who we have left behind in Southampton but we are sure they and their partners will visit us often (and share some of the hard work!)
Clare has a passion for craft work especially hand painting old furniture to give it a new lease of life and you may find some examples in your cottage when you stay! Chris, having worked in manufacturing for 25 years is looking forward to sprucing up the grounds, growing vegetables and generally just spending as much time outside as possible.
Chris is a keen cyclist, both on and off road so will be able to advise on suitable routes for cycling visitors, whilst both Clare and Chris are keen walkers (along with Milo).
The original owners, Jim and Sarah moved to West Wales in October 2007, after relocating from Maidenhead, Berkshire in search of a ‘Life in the Country’. The property they found comprised of two Welsh stone barns and a detached house sitting in 3 acres of gardens and woodland, with amazing views across surrounding fields and valleys. The barns needed a huge amount of work in order to turn them into luxury holiday cottages, but plans were quickly drawn up and planning was granted at the end of March 2008. Work began immediately.
When you come to Valley View Cottages for your holiday, you will be guaranteed a very warm welcome from us and our small but very friendly dog Milo.
We are very fortunate to be surrounded by superb wildlife, namely the magnificent buzzards which we have living in the woods at the top of the track. There is an abundance of other bird life such as red kites, woodpeckers, owls, pheasants, the rare yellowhammer (we have a pair in the garden) and many more.
We hope you will come and stay with us and experience the delights that this part of Wales has to offer.
